Position: CAD Technician

Reporting to: Director / Head of Design & Technical

Location: Stourbridge, DY9

Hours: Monday to Friday, 08.00am – 16.00pm.

Salary: Approx. £24,000 - £28,000 per annum (negotiable on experience),
plus extra hours regularly available until 5pm+, paid at flat rate.

Purpose
To create CAD files from drawings, sketches or dimensions provided, ensuring all drawings are correct & accurate, so jobs can be quoted. Assisting with enquiries, logging & recording them, along with Purchase Orders received. Training will be provided to help compile quotations, issue them to customers, and to answer associated queries. Point of customer contact, managing existing relations & building new ones. Some responsibility for FSC, continuing to ensure we adhere to all requirements, and have the relevant paper documentation & complete records.

Accountabilities & key responsibilities
⦁ CAD – to be able to turn drawings or sketches into accurate CAD drawings, ensuring all dimensions & details are accurate
⦁ Enquiries – to receive & log enquiries, creating a file to pass to relevant area for Quoting, typing up & issuing the final quote correctly, in a timely fashion
⦁ Quoting – to complete drawing & timing of simpler / quicker enquiries, followed by timing for quoting purposes, allowing a price to be issued accurately & on time
⦁ Purchase orders – to convert PO’s received into a job file, ensure drawings are accurate, ordering required materials, labels & delivery notes, keeping all relevant staff & customers informed of progress
⦁ Programming – Training will be provided to import files to ArtCAM, and program as required. Check drawings against original quote & PO for accuracy, re-nest efficiently & create pdf’s for CNC Operatives to work from
⦁ Liaison – with colleagues & customers, regarding jobs, issues, quality & delivery, to ensure jobs are delivered to expected times & quality, helping to address any subsequent concerns
⦁ FSC – maintain the FSC spread sheet, ensuring the relevant paper trail is in place, calculating weight conversion for sheets in / out, and general adherence to FSC standards. Management of FSC audit, including preparation, liaison, post audit action

Experience & knowledge
⦁ Experience of working in a busy, high pressured environment, in a customer facing role
⦁ Experience of successfully managing own time, with ability to prioritise tasks, and ensure deadlines are achieved, with a high quality of work being delivered
⦁ IT literate with experience of all MS Office products, particularly Word, Excel & Outlook
⦁ Knowledge & experience of all aspects of Auto CAD, ArtCAM, Illustrator, Toolpath
⦁ Ability to engage with people at all levels, with a positive can do attitude
⦁ Good eye for detail & ability to pick up errors or inconsistencies

Notes
“Essentially, the candidate must have the basic CAD skills, but we probably only use 10 - 20% of its functionality, so quite basic stuff, nothing 3D. This is where they'd spend the vast majority of their working day, but we'd look to cross train them in other areas like quoting, programming, etc, to give them some variation & something extra to add to their role. We obviously speak to customers on the phone regarding their jobs, design, material, etc, but I'd not expect anyone to be doing that until they were 100% confident. We also have the odd local person pop in to discuss their job, but again, I usually ask the experienced people to deal with people face to face. So it's 100% office based, no direct customer contact & only on the phone when confident."
