Engineering Team Leader

To provide the shift engineering team with clear and achievable targets for all day to day engineering activity. Working closely with the Shift Managers you will provide information on performance and maintenance issues, lead a team in delivering downtime reduction initiatives as well as ensuring the ongoing support of asset based maintenance programs, Planned Maintenance (PM) schedules and encourage team development and motivation. Involvement of the teams in identified capital projects as well as CI projects will be a focus of the role, as will managing KPI's for the department.


a) Management of the Engineering Team across your respective shift, maintaining sufficient support to the manufacturing facility.
b) Co-ordinate with shift manager and VSL team to seek out and develop opportunities for completion of planned maintenance tasks during line stoppage time during the working week to minimise downtime during planned asset running time.
c) Selecting and developing the Engineering resource as necessary to fulfil the business requirements to the anticipated standards of GMP and GEP.
d) Execute and ensure the Planned Preventative Maintenance tasks and intervals are sufficient and appropriate for the equipment and their use/design. Regularly audit and report on machine condition with recommendations for improvement, recondition and replacement.
e) Ensure the Engineering capabilities of your team are to a sufficient level to be effective in dealing with the range of opportunities as they arise, both within your team and from external support.
f) To identify technical training requirements for your team and others to maintain their skill levels. Offer mentoring and support to the continuous development of associates.
g) As part of the operations team you will actively contribute to, and participate in, a range of opportunities as they arise. Including budget preparation, business improvement projects and associated activities involving the development of the engineering department.
h) Give guidance in determining sources of replacement components for the business. Working closely with the Maintenance spares co-ordinator and the engineering teams.
i) Overseeing the administration of the Planned Preventative Maintenance Schedules and the creation of work orders for parts and tracking of in-house jobs and preventative maintenance recording.
j) Work closely with the Health and Safety Manager and engage in conducting risk assessments relating to Engineering as appropriate.
k) Oversee health and safety controls of any third party contractors whilst on site for your relevant shift. This may include carrying out a short health and safety contractor induction in order to ensure they understand site safety rules.

b) Help to maintain high standards of quality at all times across the business.
c) Performance management of your team and direct reports.


Contributory Pension Scheme - (salary exchange option + 50% of ER's NI Rebate given to employees' pension fund). 
Contributions are 5% Employee and 4% Employer (minimum).

Experience ideally with Mitsubishi or Allen Bradley PLC 's
Multiskilled - but stronger in mechanical rather than electrical
Electrical skills to include fault-finding with little installation work on electrical
Ideally someone who works/has worked in a similar position and working environment (fmcg/food manufacturing, potentially packaging)
Knowledge/experience of metal detection and check weigher equipment
Previous Team Leader experience with strong leadership, motivation (of self and team) along with decision making


Two Week Rotating Pattern of 6.45pm-6.00am Wednesday-Friday (36.75 hours)
6.45pm-6.00am Wednesday-Saturday (49 hours) with 60 minutes per shift paid break.
Holidays:  257.25 hours
