Fleet Supervisor –Wednesbury

As a result of significant growth and diversification, we are looking for an experienced and focused Fleet Supervisor to join our team. Based in Wednesbury, you will be responsible for the fleet strategy, operational management of our fleet (HGVs and Trailers) and leadership of our fleet management team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To carry out a thorough review of the company’s existing approach to fleet management
  • To develop and agree an appropriate fleet strategy for the business
  • To develop and agree a 2-year plan which will deliver the agreed strategy
  • To work closely with the directors and management of the transport and driver compliance teams to ensure that fleet management continues to meet their needs both now and in the future
  • To provide “technical” expertise on fleet management across the business
  • To keep abreast of changes to, and best practice within, the fleet management industry and to share this internally as appropriate, making any necessary changes to company fleet practice and policies
  • To agree and report on the appropriate measures in order to demonstrate continuous improvement in all areas of fleet management
  • To support the transport and driver compliance teams to ensure that the company complies with all fleet regulations, and has effective and up-to-date fleet management policies
  • To lead the procurement, repair, and disposal of all company vehicles, optimising the supplier network and achieving costs savings
  • To manage the external tracker contract and to monitor its effectiveness in improving driver management
  • To lead and manage a small fleet team, ensuring that they understand their roles and how they contribute to the success of the function. To ensure that the fleet team performance and behaviour remains in line with company expectations and values
  • To review provide regular reports highlighting fleet performance, efficiency, compliance, maintenance, accident, and other issues, with recommendations as appropriate
  • To ensure that the fleet team raises concerns to the appropriate line managers (and/or other teams as appropriate) in a timely way as and when the vehicle telematics indicate potential issues for example with driving style, potential unauthorised or inappropriate use etc
  • To be responsible for accident management and control, ensuring that the fleet team is well-trained, and able to liaise effectively with insurance brokers as necessary
  • To ensure all the necessary fleet records are kept in order to demonstrate compliance
  • To manage all internal and external working relationships confidently and effectively

 

Skills and Knowledge

  • You must have previous experience of providing strategic and operational fleet management within an organisation with a large fleet of vehicles (HGV and Trailers). Managing a fleet of 100 trucks and 150 trailers, growing to 180 trucks and 250 trailers.
  • You must be commercially aware and experienced in controlling costs, with exposure to budgets and financial controls
  • You must have a “can-do” attitude, a proactive approach to change, and be able to demonstrate your commitment to a continuous improvement philosophy
  • You should be a confident negotiator with proven supplier management experience
  • You should be familiar with the systems and software used in the fleet management and logistics environment including telematics, tracking, CCTV, fleet security and control, accident management, leasing and financing, replacement and lifecycle management etc
  • You should have experience of leading and managing a small team
  • You must have a full understanding of all relevant legal and compliance fleet controls
  • You must be able to work well under pressure and be tenacious and flexible
  • You should have excellent report-writing skills, strong MS Word & Excel skills, and experience of using bespoke IT systems
  • You should be able to demonstrate success in reducing fleet damage and spend

Salary: £35,000 to £40,000 per annum
