This is a great opportunity for a senior technician who enjoys problem-solving, mentoring apprentices, and keeping a workshop running smoothly.

The Role

You’ll be responsible for coordinating a team of technicians (including apprentices), managing job flow, and ensuring vehicles are repaired efficiently, safely, and right first time. You’ll act as the link between the workshop and front-of-house, helping maximise productivity and reduce vehicle downtime.

You’ll still be hands-on when required, while also taking ownership of workflow, quality control, and technical support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out HGV repairs and diagnostics when required
  • Allocate job cards and manage daily workshop workload
  • Support and mentor technicians and apprentices
  • Ensure first-time fix to reduce VOR times
  • Provide technical support to the Workshop Manager
  • Liaise with external suppliers and 3rd-party repairers
  • Ensure service, inspection, and compliance documentation is completed correctly
  • Manage fleet maintenance systems and approve work within authority limits
  • Maintain quality control of job sheets and repairs
  • Monitor tools, equipment, and workshop inventory
  • Support parts procurement and manage imprest stock
  • Promote and implement preventative maintenance practices
  • Ensure all health & safety standards are followed

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Apprentice-trained HGV / Commercial Vehicle Technician
  • City & Guilds Part 1 & 2 (or equivalent)
  • Strong communication and decision-making skills
  • Good planning, organisation, and time management
  • Confident working in a leadership or senior technician role

Desirable (But Not Essential)

  • Strong PC literacy
  • Good understanding of fleet maintenance systems
  • Refrigeration experience

Why Join Us?

  • Excellent hourly rates with premium weekend pay
  • A senior role with real responsibility and influence
  • Opportunity to develop leadership skills without leaving the tools behind
  • Supportive management and professional workshop environment
  • Work with a varied fleet and experienced technical team
