Job Title: TIG Welder
Department/Location: Solihull
Responsible For: Production Welding
Pay: £15 per hour
Job Purpose
The Welding Operative is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of the welding area and contributing to the smooth production of welded parts. This role supports the overall assembly process by maintaining welding jigs, fixtures, and stock levels while delivering high-quality welded assemblies. The role involves gaining a comprehensive understanding of all manufacturing and assembly processes, enabling clear and achievable goals.

Key Accountabilities
- Produce high-quality welded assemblies efficiently and with a focus on safety.
- Interpret and work to engineering drawings, utilizing a variety of materials including mild steel, aluminum, and stainless steel.
- Follow established weld procedures and standards.
- Work independently or as part of a team to meet production targets.
Measurements / Deliverables
- Meet production targets within timescales and acceptable tolerances.
- Ensure "right first time" quality.
- Maintain a safe working environment for yourself and colleagues.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including 5S implementation.
Person Specification
Skills/Abilities and Aptitude:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good listening skills and attention to detail.
- Problem-solving ability with a goal-driven attitude.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Awareness of safety practices and procedures.
Experience (Essential/Desirable):
- Time-served experience in welding.
- TIG welding experience, specifically with aluminum and stainless steel (Essential).
- Fabrication and fitting experience (Desirable).
Qualifications (Essential/Desirable):
- GCSEs in Mathematics and English (Essential).
- BS 4872 welder competence (Desirable).
- Relevant welding training (Desirable).
- Lean manufacturing training (Desirable).
- Abrasive wheels certification (for tungsten grinding) (Desirable).
General/Specialist Knowledge:
- Experience working with a variety of metals, including mild steel, aluminum, and stainless steel.
- Knowledge of 5S and Lean manufacturing practices.
