Job Overview

Our client are seeking skilled and motivated Dredge Operatives and Bankside Operatives to join their team. The successful candidate(s) will be responsible for operating and maintaining dredging equipment to remove sediment, debris, and other materials from water bodies such as rivers, lakes, and harbors. The Dredge Operative will work closely with a team of professionals to ensure safe and efficient dredging operations, adhering to all safety protocols and environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate Dredging Equipment: Safely and efficiently operate dredging machinery, including cutter suction dredgers, trailing suction hopper dredgers, and other related equipment
  • Monitor Dredging Operations: Continuously monitor the dredging process to ensure compliance with project specifications and environmental guidelines
  • Maintenance and Repairs: Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on dredging equipment to ensure optimal functionality and prevent breakdowns
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all health and safety regulations, wearing appropriate PPE and following safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries
  • Communication: Collaborate with the dredging team, supervisors, and other stakeholders to ensure clear communication and coordination during operations
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of dredging activities, including daily logs, equipment usage, and any incidents or anomalies
  • Environmental Protection: Implement and follow environmental protection measures to minimize the impact of dredging operations on the surrounding environment.
  • Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond to emergencies or equipment malfunctions promptly and effectively

A CSCS card is desirable, however not essential as full training will be provided.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Previous experience operating dredging equipment or working in a similar role within the maritime or construction industry is preferred but not essential
  • Technical Skills: An understanding of dredging operations, equipment maintenance, and repair techniques
  • Certification: Relevant certifications such as a Marine Engine Driver's license, STCW (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers), or other maritime certifications are an asset
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and work in various weather conditions
  • Safety Awareness: Demonstrated knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations related to dredging operations
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues quickly
  • Communication Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills to interact with team members and report to supervisors
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work extended hours, including full weeks away from home, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required by project needs
